Candlelight Services @ 6:00 PM & 11:00 PM
At the heart of our service is the story of the nativity: the miraculous birth of our Savior. Born to a mother who, modeling a posture of humble Christian service, said: "May it be to me as the Lord has said." Born to an earthly father who, modeling an ethic of responsibility for what the world would have told him was not his responsibility. Born to a heavenly father who sent His Son to us as a gift.
"This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him."
Near the close of our time of worship together, we will celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion. We do not celebrate Christmas as if the rest of the story were unknown to us. Christmas is about more than the hope of a prophecy fulfilled. It is about the knowledge of what this birth (this life and death and resurrection) accomplished.
As we close our time of worship, we will sing the tradition Christmas carol "Silent Night" by candlelight. From the Christ Candle on the Advent Wreath, we will light on other's candles as the lights in the room are dimmed, and - in the warmth of the glow of candlelight - we will remember and celebrate the birth of the King.
